when the morning light flooded through
you were still on my mind. i saw the day
break before i sighed and slept.

the night was a warm blanket
we wrapped around ourselves and each other,
made of touching leaning hearts.

the strange refrain of convenience:
‘all the world is soft around you
leaving me with nothing to disdain.’

the night was black and white
and sparkling, like the way your eyes
shone in the still air.

our love is inarticulate, caught up
in a very moment.

time overtakes us, the day breaks
taking away breath,
and words.
